Twinkle, twinkle little bat. How I wonder where you're at. Up above the world so high, like a tea tray in the sky...

amelie dormir

It was finally Autumn…not that the weather seemed to change much in London, but the little dormouse had a great love for the seasonal change and this season in particular. There was nothing like cozying up with a hot cuppa and wrapping oneself in a multitude of blankets. Something she liked to refer to as "a mouse burrito."

Oh and she'd recently discovered 'Mexican food' or the closest thing to it in London. She hadn't stopped talking about it for weeks to Ruby, mostly because she often forgot she'd told her in the first place.

However Amelie had found herself stuck on the tube and had also found she did not love autumn as much as she'd thought, at least here in London. Since she had not been in London for more than a year she'd been experiencing what human's considered "holidays". Amelie did not like many of these "holidays".
Holidays with humans considered mostly of getting loud and becoming drunk. She was not a large fan of the former. "Halloween", she found, included something her heart could not endure for much longer. Worse so that the holiday did not even occur until the end of the month. It seemed people could not wait so long either.
She sat in a seat, closest to the back and away from most everyone entering during rush hour. She prayed she'd be awake for her stop, she couldn't take the terror much more. As the weeks wore on she found more and more people not looking like themselves, and worse, as things that terrified the poor mouse.

Her eyes darted from left to right as people filled any and every open space available in the car, including the seat next to her. She gripped her sleeve with such severity her knuckles turned an impossible white, she was already a deathly pale hue on a daily basis. The bags under her eyes seemed even greater in size, which was amazing in a rather unfortunate way.
At last the moving stopped, the doors slid close and Ames finally let the breathe she hadn't realized she was holding, out. It came shakily, and she sniffled out of habit, running her sleeved hand over her nose which caused the man to her left to give her the most dubious look. She was unsure of his reaction and decided to ignore it the best she could.

She hadn't realized the tram had stopped, she'd almost slipped asleep once more. Her neighbor had accidentally nudged her as he stood to leave the car causing her to return to the present. She quickly gathered her things, so happy to be leaving the cylindrical cage at last. However the happiness was short lived as her eyes met with anothers and she felt her spine go stiff as a board.
There, before her, stood the tiniest black cat, a small paw firmly holding it's mother's hand, the other a hollowed out pumpkin. The shock had hit her straight on, and only instinct seemed to take over her mind. This had to have been the tenth one this week.
Only the smallest of whimpers left her lips before she felt herself go limp and the impact of the cold tube floor. The dormouse did not like October.

feels so good getting what i want
Human holidays were much unlike Wonderland holidays, which was fine with Jacqueline since there was a whole lot more drinking in London when holidays came around. Like, a lot more. Wonderland knew how to have fun, yes, but getting drunk for an entire weekend because it was Halloween (and that was the only excuse people gave) was highly entertaining to Jaq. Humans found reasons to drink to anything. Job promotion? Drink. Broke up? Drink. Saturday night? Drink. Birthday? Drink. Sporting event? Drink. Thirsty Thursday? Drink. Alive and functioning? Drink. Margarita Monday? Drink. Alive and not really functioning? Drink. Failed a test? Drink. Tipsy Tuesday? Drink. Alive? Drink. Dead? Drink.

So it could be readily and easily assumed that Jaq was very much looking forward to Halloween since it seemed to be a big party holiday. The costumes were fantastic, too — small children dressing up as superheroes, regular-sized adults dressing up as superheroes, in fact she was seeing a lot of superheroes this year now that she thought about it — and she was excited for Halloween night. She was planning on dressing up as a bee and spending the whole night bothering Nadine. Until then, she was enjoying seeing everyone else dress up, too excited to wait.

Well, all except for one. Jaq had braved the Underground during rush hour, too far from her flat to walk without wanting to fall over and the streets were too clogged to even think about hailing a taxi. It was crowded when she finally got in a carriage, having to stand against one of the poles right near the doors. When her stop came up, she was about to disembark when some guy back into her. Annoyed, she turned around to tell him off when she noticed someone had collapsed. Well, not someone. Amelie, the Dormouse has fainted, a small boy dressed up as a cat looking at her with giant eyes.

Jaq nearly laughed until she realized nobody was really doing anything. She elbowed through, nearly falling on top of Amelie as the train suddenly lurched forward, speeding off to the next stop. Giving a glare to the guy who had bumped into her, she crouched down next to Amelie and attempted shaking her awake. "Amelie," she tried, squeezing her shoulder. "Amelie come on." She looked up and saw an empty seat, miraculously enough, and summoned enough strength to pick Amelie up, wrapping her arm around Amelie's waist, and dragging her the two feet to the seat. With a grunt, she plopped Amelie in the seat, bracing the other woman while Jaq waited for her to wake up.
